Barknacke's Detective Agency was founded on a grey winter's day in a worn-down office on the outskirts of Hornstull in Stockholm. It was a time when the streets were lit by gas lamps and horse-drawn carriages rattled over cobblestone alleyways.
The firm was started by Albert G. Barknacke and his wife, Ylva-Maria. Albert was a resourceful and discreet detective while Ylva-Maria was a remarkable forensic expert. Together they built the business over 25 years and solved some of Sweden's most difficult cases.
In 1912 the couple's two daughters took over the agency and renamed it Golden Detective. Since then, we have continued the tradition of that bygone era with modern methods. Our agents work in the shadows — beyond the spotlight and always guided by the client's integrity as our lodestar. We take on the cases others shy away from — and we solve them swiftly, quietly and painlessly.
